India has the largest population in the world and boasts one of the largest diaspora populations. And when it comes to the world of global health and medicine, the nation is a powerhouse. Between 2022 and 2023, Fogarty funded over 30 studies in the country covering such diverse topics as eye health, mental health, environmental exposures, women’s health, and more.

FDA approves first chikungunya vaccine

Ixchiq, the world’s first chikungunya vaccine, was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on November 9, 2023. The FDA considers chikungunya an emerging global health threat with at least 5 million cases reported over the past 15 years.
