Special Announcements

Give input on using scientific research to improve development outcomes

USAID's Innovation, Technology, and Research Hub (ITR/R) is requesting input on how to increase the generation, translation, and utilization of scientific research to improve development outcomes.

Supplemental funds available to enhance diversity

Recipients of Fogarty research grants in U.S. institutions can apply for supplementary support to enhance the diversity of the U.S. global health research workforce. These supplements provide support to current grantees for students, postdoctorates, and eligible investigators from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in health-related research.

  • USAID is seeking applications to implement the HIV Vaccine Innovation, Science, and Technology Acceleration in Africa (HIV-VISTA) Project to support sub-Saharan African scientists, institutions, and innovative systems of collaboration in designing and testing improved HIV vaccine candidates.

  • The e-ASIA Joint Research Program (the e-ASIA JRP) has announced a call for proposals in the field of climate change and health research [PDF] focusing on the health impacts of climate change in East Asia and neighboring regions.

  • Concept papers are being accepted for the Thrasher Research Fund Early Career Awards. The program encourages the development of researchers in child health by awarding small grants to new researchers, helping them gain a foothold in this important area. The goal is to fund applicants who will go on to be independent investigators.

  • The Wellcome Trust Climate Impacts Awards is now accepting applications from transdisciplinary teams to deliver short-term, high-impact projects, combining evidence generation with communications and/or public engagement.

  • The Einstein Foundation Early Career Researcher Award for Promoting Quality in Research is open to researchers from anywhere in the world. The award aims to provide recognition and publicity for outstanding efforts that enhance the rigor, reliability, robustness, and transparency of research in the natural sciences and other areas.

  • Reckitt Global Hygiene Institute’s International Collaboration Award supports partnerships to address a pressing public health challenge related to hygiene and sanitation. To be eligible, at least half of the institutions in a partnership must be based in a low- or middle-income country and having a locally led research team.

  • Grant writing skills program accepting applications: The Essential Grant Writing Skills Programme from the Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF) is accepting applications from scientists who are active, emerging biomedical/health researchers in sub-Saharan African countries.

  • Ten-week online training in clinical trial operations starts in June: Clinical Trial Operations from the Center for Innovative Drug Development and Therapeutic Trials for Africa (CDT-Africa), Addis Ababa University, is accepting applications from study coordinators based in Africa.
    • Course dates: June 5-August 4, 2023
  • Raising a Resilient Scientist Series runs through March 2023: The NIH Office of Intramural Training & Education (OITE) is offering a five-unit series covering communication, resilience, inclusivity, conflict and feedback, and trainee wellbeing to help extramural PIs support biomedical trainees.
