Project Description
Clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) is an age-related marker of blood cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Early and pre-disease detection of rare somatic mutations associated with CHIP in clinically healthy normal-aging Nigerians is much needed as they could offer important prediction of the risk of developing hematological malignancies and provide information on potential targets of therapeutic interventions. This project will also acquire fundamental skills in error-corrected sequencing, variant analysis and data management critical for my establishment as an independent Africa-based medical geneticist.
