Project Description

In sub-Saharan Africa, Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS) is one of the most commonly reported cancers in the general population, and is associated with considerable morbidity and mortality in HIV-infected individuals. This project addresses the problem by supporting the career development of an emerging young scientist dedicated to understanding the impact of KS on mortality among the HIV-infected population, to identify potential biologic pathways that predict death after KS diagnosis, and to develop a prediction rule for mortality among HIV-infected individuals with KS in the region. This investment will increase the possibility of developing strategies to reduce the burden of KS among HIV-infected individuals in the era of effective anti-retroviral therapy.
