Project Description
Despite the high burden of epilepsies in sub-Saharan Africa, many commonly occurring epilepsies remain understudied and poorly characterized. This project focuses on improving our understanding of the role of host genetics and its relationship to exposure to
Onchocerca volvulus, a commonly occurring parasite, in the manifestation of epilepsy. Advances from these studies will provide mechanistic insights into epileptogenesis of acquired epilepsies and new targets for developing preventive measures.
