Project Description

This study is important to public health as it will be perhaps the first study to develop and pilot test a network-based intervention designed to increase cervical cancer (CC) screening and treatment in sub-Saharan Africa by empowering women living with cervical cancer risk (WLCCR) to be critical change agents for cervical cancer screening among women in their social network. In settings of high HPV and cervical cancer prevalence such as Uganda, where virtually every family is touched by someone living with cervical cancer risk (defined as receiving treatment for pre-cancerous or cancerous lesions), successfully mobilizing WLCCR to be advocates for CC screening and treatment could have a significant impact in the fight to control CC.
