Project Description
This project aims to carry out the first ever genetic etiology studies on craniosynostosis in a sub- Saharan African population, Ghana, which is highly underrepresented in genetic etiology studies. This project will build research capacity in craniosynostosis in Ghana and carry out whole exome sequencing and RNA-sequencing on saliva and cranial bone samples, respectively, obtained from Ghanaian patients with craniosynostosis. The project has both basic science and translational relevance: identification of population-specific etiologic genetic variants and/or genes for craniosynostosis and high-risk families – these are necessary for genetic counseling.
