Project Description
The UCLA-South Africa Tirisano Training Project (TTP) seeks to prepare future investigators to conduct research on chronic stress and noncommunicable chronic mental health disorders including substance abuse, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) across the life course. As an international collaboration between UCLA and several South African Universities and Institutions, including the University of Cape Town (UCT), the University of Stellenbosch, the Human Sciences Research Council and North West University, Tirisano's public health mission is to:
- Increase the number of well-trained South African chronic stress and non-communicable chronic mental health researchers;
- Translate research findings to culturally congruent substance abuse and mental health treatment interventions and programs; and
- Facilitate the building of community clinical and research capacity and infrastructure that benefit South African people.
