Project Description
Pakistan, a low-middle income country (and fifth most-populous in the world), has limited capacity to address its existing noncommunicable disease (NCD) crisis. Leveraging existing infrastructure at the Aga Khan University’s flagship program in Karachi, Pakistan, the extensive Aga Khan Development Network, and long-standing collaborations with Duke University, we have designed a robust, integrated, multidisciplinary research training program targeting cardio-cerebrovascular diseases and their risk factors with a prioritization of surveillance and implementation research methods that leverage big data and mobile health (mHealth). We expect that this program will directly increase Pakistan’s research capacity, a critical element in a comprehensive NCD response.
