Next generation of researchers needed to combat global chronic diseases

March / April 2010 | Volume 9, Issue 2

More early-career scientists are needed to combat global chronic diseases according to two former Fogarty trainees. In the Jul / Aug 2009 Global Health Matters article New career trajectories: studying disease overseas, Drs. Gerald Bloomfield and Mark Huffman, cardiologists funded through the Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholars and Fellows program, encourage their cardiology colleagues and other specialists to apply for fellowships in developing countries.

The Fogarty scholars and fellows program supports mentored clinical research training for graduate-level U.S. students in the health professions. Participants train at top-ranked NIH-funded research centers in developing countries. The article provides information about other NIH funding opportunities and fellowships offered by nonprofits.
