Dr. Harriet Mayanja-Kizza, dean of Makerere University Medical School in Uganda, describes how she launched her career. She received her master's in immunology at Case Western Reserve University through a Fogarty Fellowship supported by the AIDS International Training and Research Program (AITRP). She now runs a state-of-the-art laboratory in Kampala with many doctoral and postdoctoral students and international collaborations, all of which stem from her Fogarty links.
