Video profile: New York State International Training and Research Program
Fogarty grantee Dr. Jack DeHovitz and faculty from SUNY campuses at Downstate Medical Center and the University at Albany, discuss how Fogarty's AIDS International Training and Research Program (AITRP) grants have helped build research capacity in Tbilisi, Georgia.
This collaboration, initially funded in 1993, is a unique merging of an academic medical center (SUNY Downstate), a school of public health (SUNY Albany) and a state department of health (New York State Department of Health). The program has provided long-term training in both laboratory and population-based studies to trainees and short-term training to an additional 40. The work done by the trainees has resulted in over 200 publications and the receipt of substantial extramural funding.
