Resources

The network and its members have developed a number of publications, toolkits, and other resources that further adolescent HIV and implementation science efforts.

  • Adolescents in Research Toolkit: the toolkit is an online comprehensive clinical, logical, ethical-legal resource to facilitate the safe and effective involvement of adolescents in the implementation of health and other related research in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • AHI(SA)2 Delphi Analysis: The AHI(SA)2 team and AHISA Network colleagues completed a systematic review and modified Delphi analysis of interventions addressing the HIV continuum of care for adolescents in South Africa.

What is the Adolescent HIV Implementation Science Alliance?

Fogarty’s Adolescent HIV Implementation Science Alliance (AHISA) brings together scientists, program implementers, and policymakers to advance adolescent HIV prevention and treatment through implementation science. Across 26 teams in 11 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, AHISA facilitates cross-sector collaboration and knowledge exchange; aligns small research awards with real-world programmatic needs; informs policy decisions with evidence-based, youth-centered insights; and expands the impact of implementation science for adolescent HIV prevention and treatment.

The impact of the Adolescent HIV Prevention and Treatment Implementation Science Alliance

A 2024 evaluation aimed to assess the impact of AHISA and describe how its approach supports network goals related to training and development, partnerships and engagement, scientific publications, youth-led advocacy, research funding, and program and policy changes. Findings indicate that between 2018-2024, the AHISA network trained more than 250 people, members published over 1,200 peer-reviewed scientific articles, and more than $75 million USD in new NIH research funding was attributed to individuals involvement with the network.
