Funding news for global health researchers: May 19, 2025

On behalf of the Fogarty International Center at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), the following funding opportunities, notices and announcements may be of interest to those working in the field of global health research. Updates are typically distributed once a week.

Special Announcements

Early Expiration of Fogarty Funding Opportunities

On October 19, 2023, NIH announced a new framework for the peer review of most research project grant (RPG) applications. NIH has since identified a number of Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) that were not expired or reissued as indicated in the implementation plan outlined in NOT-OD-24-085. Consequently, NIH will expire those NOFOs at the end of the current application cycle (May 24, 2025), including these Fogarty NOFOs:

Reminder: Application Requirements for Projects Involving Activities Outside of the United States or Partnerships with International Collaborators

NIH issued a notice/reminder about longstanding application requirements for projects involving activities outside of the United States or partnerships with international collaborators. In order for NIH to fully assess all foreign activities and collaborations prior to award, the SF-424 R&R Other Project Information Form requires applicants to indicate whether the project involves activities outside of the United States or partnerships with international collaborators, and, if yes, include a “Foreign Justification.”

Updated NIH Policy on Foreign Subawards

The NIH Policy on Foreign Subawards was updated on May 1, 2025. Until the details of the new foreign collaboration award structure are released, foreign subawards are not allowed.
