Project Description
Alzheimer’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease-Related Dementia (AD/ADRD), which is characterized by loss of memory, changes in thinking and language, and difficulty with everyday activities, affects 51 million people worldwide, a number expected to dramatically increase in coming decades, particularly in low- and middle- income countries (LMICs). This research aims to determine the number of adults with AD/ADRD and the risk factors they have for this disease in Zambia, a LMIC in sub-Saharan Africa, and help train additional experts there to detect AD/ADRD and improve care for AD/ADRD. Understanding how common AD/ADRD is and the underlying causes will lead to future interventions to prevent this devastating condition.
