Project Description
The majority of the low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) including Bangladesh are confronted by severe environmental and occupational health-related challenges because of rapid urbanization, unplanned industrialization, and sub-optimal regulation, control, and remediation. The main research focus of this project is to evaluate the changes in preclinical markers of cardio-respiratory and immune dysfunction in relation to reduction of household air pollution achieved through exclusive clean fuel use for cooking. We also plan to conduct pilot studies exploring health effects of industrial waste and garment industry work—two other emerging GEOHealth topics relevant for Bangladesh and many other LMICs.
