Project Description

Of the approximately five million deaths in children younger than five years in 2018, half were attributable to infectious causes while malnutrition is the underlying contributing factor in nearly one half of all child deaths globally. This training program will harness scientific knowledge and skills to enhance prevention, treatment and control of pediatric infectious diseases causing major morbidity and mortality in Ethiopia and develop stronger capacity related to nutrition given its central role in the incidence and severity of infection. Through doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships, intensive short courses, and scientific symposia, this training program aims to train a critical mass of public health researchers to carry out successful research in pediatric infectious diseases and nutrition in Ethiopia.
