Project Description

Smoking-related illnesses are leading causes of non HIV/AIDS-related deaths among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). To date, no intervention has adequately addressed smoking cessation among PLWHA, especially in South Africa. Building on our previous work and our expertise, in collaboration with our South African partners, we will adapt an evidence-based interactive telehealth harm reduction intervention to promote cigarette smoking abstinence among PLWHA, and conduct a pilot randomized controlled trial to examine feasibility, acceptability and potential efficacy of the intervention.
