Project Description

Uganda is at the heart of the HIV epidemic in East Africa, and its progress in preventing and treating HIV, one of the world's greatest public health threats, has been mixed. This program aims to train local Ugandan scientists in cutting edge research on how to best implement HIV services, how to use statistics and geospatial tools to better understand and respond to the HIV epidemic, and how to conduct laboratory studies to try and find a cure for HIV, all high priority NIH research areas. With this increased research capacity, Uganda will be well positioned to better understand and control the HIV epidemic in Uganda and beyond.
