Project Description
HIV/AIDS remains a significant health challenge in Uganda and other SSA countries. With current efforts to scale up HIV treatment before severe immune suppression, there is need to understand complexities related to early ART initiation e.g., issues of long-term adherence, clinical and immunological treatment outcomes, HIV-associated malignancies and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Addressing these will require a new thinking and approaches for generating and synthesizing evidence that can inform policy. Research training in LICs provides an avenue to build capacity for locally generated investigations aimed at preventing and controlling HIV/AIDS. Leveraging on existing infrastructure at Makerere University College of Sciences and international collaboration with University of California San Francisco, this project aims for a comprehensive multi-disciplinary health data science research-training program in Uganda.
