Global Noncommunicable Diseases and Injury Research

Eligibility

  • Only direct applications from low- and middle-income country (LMIC) institutions will be accepted. The subcategories of LMICs are: upper-middle, lower-middle and low-income countries. Applicants are also encouraged to engage partners from any country, including the U.S., that can assist them in meeting their goals. To determine country income categories, please see World Bank classification system.
  • Research addressing multiple NCDs and their risk factors and research addressing NCDs as comorbidities for/with infectious diseases including HIV/AIDS is encouraged.
  • Applications on research topics related to the brain, nervous system, mental health and substance abuse should apply to Global brain and nervous system disorders research across the lifespan.

Program Overview

The Global Noncommunicable Diseases and Injury Across the Lifespan research program aims to support innovative, collaborative biomedical or behavioral/social science research in the areas of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and injury throughout life in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Basic to clinical and translational research including implementation science approaches and interdisciplinary research on the intersection of a number of NCDs, or of HIV or other communicable diseases and noncommunicable diseases, are encouraged in addition to specific NCD or injury focused areas.
