Information for the NIH Extramural Community During the Lapse of Federal Government Funding
Because a funding lapse has occurred, please be advised that National Institutes of Health (NIH) staff may not be available to provide normal oversight and administrative support services. For awards received prior to the lapse in funding, you may be able to continue drawing funds from prior awards during an appropriations lapse. HHS’s Payment Management System will remain operational to continue processing those drawdown requests.
NIH Removing AIDS Application Due Dates from NOFOs
Beginning with the applications for Advisory Council Review in January 2027, NIH will no longer accept applications submitted on AIDS application due dates. Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) that include AIDS application due dates for January 2027 Advisory Council Reviews are superseded by this notice. NIH will revise NOFOs to reflect the standard application due dates including AIDS applications.
NCI SEER launches CONCORD*Explorer, an interactive tool for international childhood cancer survival data
The newest interactive tool from the National Cancer Institute (NCI),
CONCORD*Explorer, features pediatric cancer survival statistics from 63 countries. Users can view survival rates for lymphomas, acute lymphoid leukemias, and brain cancers among children ages 0 to 14 years who were diagnosed between 2000 and 2014.

- The
2026 Mechanistic Clinical Award from the
Lupus Research Alliance supports pilot study projects worldwide. Research projects should focus on testing lifestyle interventions that have the potential to improve the well-being of those living with lupus. Areas of focus for interventions may include physical activity and exercise, diet and nutrition, mental health, harmful exposure prevention (e.g., sun exposure, smoking, alcohol, etc.), sleep, and social relation-based interventions.

NOSTER & Science Microbiome Prize has been established to reward innovative research by young investigators working on the functional attributes of the microbiota of any organism that has potential to contribute to our understanding of human or veterinary health and disease or to guide therapeutic interventions. Keith Michael Andrus Cardiac Award from the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) supports qualified investigators on research projects on cardiomyopathy associated with Friedreich’s ataxia (FA), a genetic, progressive neuromuscular disease. Applicants may be affiliated with public or private organizations in the USA and worldwide.
Letters of intent deadline: February 15, 2026 - The
Kyle Bryant Translational Research Award supports qualified investigators on research projects on Friedreich’s ataxia (FA), a genetic, progressive neuromuscular disease. Proposals should focus on accelerating completion of translational stage activities necessary for advancement to clinical study of a therapeutic candidate or development of novel tools that address a critical bottleneck to the discovery or development of therapies. Applicants may be affiliated with public or private organizations in the USA and worldwide.
Letters of intent deadline: February 15, 2026 - The
Leadership for Innovation and Excellence in Accelerating Research on Women’s Health is a one-year, cohort-based leadership program designed to support exceptional mid-career African researchers and innovators advancing women’s health. Applications are open to eligible African researchers working in women’s health research and innovation.
Application deadline: February 20, 2026 - The
Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Psychological Society recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the advancement of psychological knowledge, with an exemplary record of personal achievement along the way. Nominees should be current or retired academics and researchers in any area of psychology and may reside in the UK or worldwide. Application deadline: February 22, 2026 - The
2026 Linda Spear Mid-Career Award in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience from the Flux Society recognizes outstanding contributions by scientists at the mid-level of their careers. Nominees should have been working in the area of developmental cognitive neuroscience for at least 8 years following their terminal degree (e.g. PhD, DPhil, MD), but not for more than 19 years. Caregiving leave or time spent in clinical training do not count toward the 19 year limit. Self-nominations are also welcome. Membership is not required for submissions. Open to applicants worldwide.

2026 Young Investigator Award in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience from the Flux Society and supported by Kennedy Krieger Institute, recognizes outstanding contributions by scientists early in their careers. Open to applicants worldwide.

2026 Dissertation Award in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience recognizes an exceptional dissertation by one of the Flux Society's trainee members. Nominees must have defended their thesis in the year of the conference or the year before. Self-nominations are also welcome. Memberships are not required for submissions. Open to applicants worldwide.
Application deadline: February 27, 2026 - The
2026 RMS Section Awards recognizes outstanding scientific achievements across all areas of microscopy and flow cytometry. Each RMS Science Section is able to select a winner for their own award. All awards are open to applicants worldwide. The award will normally be made to nominees who have engaged in independent research for less than 10 years. Applicants may self-nominate or be nominated by a colleague or collaborator.

Call for Abstracts: International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases in the Pacific Rim
The U.S.-Japan Cooperative Medical Sciences Program (USJCMSP) invites abstract submissions for the 26th International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) in the Pacific Rim. This year's conference will focus on bacterial and parasitic diseases of importance in the Pacific Rim, with the theme, "Animal-Human-Environmental Interface: Opportunities and Challenges to Eradicate and Cure Infectious Diseases." The program includes plenary and panel sessions, as well as a 2-day cancer panel covering cancer and immunology, enteric diseases and cancer, microbiome, nutrition, and the GI tract. Early career scientists are strongly encouraged to submit abstracts for poster presentations.
