The NIH budget was approved by Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump in late September, providing funding for Fiscal Year 2019 just prior to its start Oct. 1.

NIH received a $2 billion increase over the previous year, bringing its budget to $39.1 billion. Fogarty’s allocation also saw a boost, for a total of $78.1 million.

It’s the first time in more than two decades that funding for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) - of which NIH is part - was finalized before the fiscal year began.
