Fogarty's scientists conduct original research in epidemiology and mathematical modeling of diseases, genomic evolution of pathogens, implementation science, and population studies. They use NIH’s supercomputer to develop modeling techniques that enhance preparedness and the response to emerging health threats, directly benefitting the health and safety of Americans.

Fogarty researchers collaborated with scientists across the globe to study the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19. One study analyzed more than 114,000 virus genomes collected in Washington State to better understand transmission between people, places, and age groups.
